What Wedding Accessories do I need?
Getting married and asking ‘what wedding accessories do I need to buy’? If so, you are not alone. Whilst wedding accessories are by no means essential items, they really do add that finishing touch and help to achieve the overall look you are trying to create so it’s worth giving your Wedding Accessories some thought early on. Tradition states ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ and if you’re superstitious, this might be something to bear in mind but we’ve come up with a few additional tips to help you narrow down the choice of wedding accessories.
Starting at the top with the veil, typically these are single or multiple layers of tulle, chiffon or lace, secured by flowers or a tiara, often trimmed with scatter beads, crystals or diamantes. As a general rule, the more formal the dress, the longer the veil. However, if you don’t feel that you’ll be comfortable in a veil, there are plenty of alternative wedding accessories - you could choose to stick with a headdress made up with real/dried/silk flowers to complement your bouquet or you may also consider replacing the veil completely with a tiara.
Tiaras are very popular choice of wedding accessory for the modern bride. With the wide variety of tiaras/headdresses now available, there is definitely something for everyone where this wedding accessory is concerned.
Depending on how you are planning to wear your hair on your Big Day, your choice of wedding accessories may include small feature hair pins (for hair worn up or half up) or larger, more dramatic pins designed to be seen from the front or the back with up do styles. Such wedding accessories can be combined with crystals or feathers for a contemporary look. Or to capture that beach babe feel use a single large flower which matches your wedding colour scheme, Gerbera for example, pinned in to your locks.
As far as Jewellery goes, you will need to look for something which complements your engagement ring, tiara and dress (colour and neckline). Realistically your wedding accessories are very likely to include a necklace and earrings, and possibly a bracelet.
Give careful consideration to which wedding accessories will complement your dress (colour and neckline), how you will wear your hair, your headdress and your ring. If the neckline of your dress is on the low side– a pendant style necklace is a good choice of wedding accessory as it will break up the space and add detail to a bare neckline. Higher necklines might be better suited to a chocker style. A very high neckline such as high collar or slash neck could go with a longer pendant. If you’re wearing your hair up, for instance, drop earrings would be a great choice of wedding accessory, giving a dramatic touch. For short hair, studs are a good choice.
